Gallery Dezidera Millyho

One of the branches of the Slovak National Museum in Svidnik, Slovakia is Dezider Milly's Gallery in Svidník. It is located in a historic baroque palace.

Dezider Milly's gallery is located in an 18th-century baroque palace. It presents the development of folk and professional visual arts of Ruthenians - Ukrainians from the 16th century to the present day.

The gallery consists of nine rooms. In the entrance hall there is a wooden sculpture with a bronze bust of the national academic painter Dezider Milly. The author of the sculpture is the artist Ján Kulich. Among the exhibits on display, the valuable collection of icons deserves special attention.

The building that houses the gallery, originally a manor house, was built at the end of the 18th century in the late Baroque style. It is the oldest building in Svidnik, registered on the State List of Monuments. It was reconstructed for the needs of the museum and made available to the public in 1983.

The founders of the present school of Transcarpathian painting were Adalbert Erdélyi and Jozef Bokšaj. Several artists in Slovakia are inseparable from their early work. The works of these artists of Transcarpathian painting, as well as important personalities of artistic life in Transcarpathia, such as V. Borecký, F. Manail and A. Kock, are exhibited in the Dezider Milly Gallery of the Slovak National Museum - Museum of Ukrainian Culture.
