The hotel is named after the Russian Tsar Alexander I, who visited the Bardejov spa in the early 19th century. The letter "A" in the Hotel Alexander logo is the first letter of the Russian Tsar's signature.

Alexander I. Pawłowicz (* December 23, 1777 - December 1, 1825), the Russian Tsar from March 23, 1801, the ruler of Poland from 1815 and the first Grand Duke of Finland, on May 21, 1821, visited Bardejovské Kúpele on his way from the congress in Ljubljana. He stopped, inter alia, in the Spa Spa and tasted the local healing mineral water. The chalice from which he drank has survived and today it is one of the most interesting objects of the museum exhibition devoted to the history of the Bardejov spa. It has the engraved text: Alexander, Russian Emperor, May 21, 1821 ecce pocula gustavit aquam acidam Bartphensem (Alexander, emperor of Russia, on May 21, 1821 tasted the Bardejov sour water from this chalice). in his honor were prepared by representatives of the highlander and Polish nobility, and apparently he felt so well there that at one point he spontaneously exclaimed: "Live here and die ...!"
