Parish of the Ascension of Jesus in Górzanka

In the Archives of the Crown Treasury there is a mention that in 1552 there were 15 peasants in Górzanka, a pope and a village leader. In 1480, after the death of Jan Bal - Sanok captain - Matiasz, Fr. Piotr and Mikołaj divided their father's estate. As a result of the division of the estate, the then Wilkowyja Mała (today's Górzanka) fell to Rev. Piotr and Matias.

According to local sources, a temple from before 1718 stood in Górzanka at the foot of the mountain "Bilat" ("under Biłatim") and was supposed to burn in a village fire. The second temple, probably built around 1718, already standing in its present place, could have been a Latin manor chapel and served subsequent owners of the villages of Balom, Karsznicki, Giebułtowski, etc. and the faithful of both rites until around 1835.

In the absence of Catholic patrons, the Austrians often handed over the churches to the Uniates. They promised the Ruthenians to create a separate nation state, antagonized the local community, and many Ruthenians succumbed to this policy and increasingly identified themselves with the pro-Ukrainian option. Perhaps then the temple in Górzanka was expanded, on August 10, 1835, it was consecrated as the church of St. Paraskeva and handed over by the Austrian authorities to the faithful of the Greek Catholic rite. The faithful of the Roman Catholic rite from Górzanka and the surrounding area went to the church in nearby Wołkowyja.

In the 1960s, the pre-war project of building a hydroelectric power plant in the nearby San River was returned. People's authorities used it, inter alia, to destroy the church and orthodox church in Wołkowyja. The church was flooded with the waters of the Solina Lagoon in October 1967. Previously, all the equipment was transported to Górzanka and stored in a makeshift shed near the church.

The authorities, not wanting to further annoy the inhabitants, succumbing to the demands of Fr. Archbishop Ignacy Tokarczuk, agreed in 1969 to establish the Roman Catholic Parish of the Ascension of Jesus in Górzanka.
