Piorunka - wooden church. st. Kosma and Damian

After the Second World War, the Lemkos were displaced from the town of Piorunka, which resulted in the church being taken over by the Roman Catholic Church and this state still exists today. The church is currently dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and is a subsidiary church of the parish in Czyrna.

St. st. Kosma and Damiana in Piorunka was established in 1798 and rebuilt in 1909.

It is a Lemko church, three-part, with a carcass structure, completely shingled. The roof of the building is covered with sheet metal. The vestibule, nave and presbytery are of different widths, the two extreme parts are covered with tent roofs. The towers are covered with domes. The area around the church is surrounded by a low stone wall.

The interior of the church is richly equipped. The most valuable monument of the church is definitely the rococo iconostasis from the 18th century. It is the oldest and fully preserved object, which has elements from the 17th century.

The painting that most attracts people to visit the church is the portrait of a shepherd from the Lemko region, presented against the background of a mountain panorama. The secular image is an exceptional rarity in the iconostases decorated according to the canon. Admire is also caused by the polychrome made in 1930.
