The most interesting monuments of the city are concentrated around the wide Hlavna Street, which serves as the city's elongated market square. It houses both the Catholic co-cathedral of St. Nicholas and the Evangelical cathedral with the adjacent historical library building, the Renaissance-Baroque Rakoczi Palace housing the Regional Museum, the City Hall and the excellent Wine Museum (on the left in the arcade leading to St. Florian Street). A bit further north-west of the cathedrals, between Okrużna and Jarkova streets, we find a beautiful synagogue (today a place of Reform Rite prayer and the seat of the Museum of Jewish Culture) and a complex of the remains of the former ghetto buildings.

In the outskirts of Solivar you can find well-managed relics of the former SOLIVAR salt mine.

The favorite street of the residents is ul. Floriana, turned into a promenade with numerous restaurants, bars and cafes. In its middle, at the intersection with ul. Jarkova, there is a dark relic of the Middle Ages - Caraffa prison - today a charming art gallery.
