Regional Museum in Prešov

The museum is located in the historic Rakoczych Palace opposite the apse of the St. Nicholas Co-cathedral in Presov. Its rich collection includes collections of paintings, ceramics, bobbin lace, rural arts and crafts, as well as artifacts of the city's culture.

The Regional Museum in Prešov is located in the former Renaissance-Baroque Rakoczi Palace in the center of the city. The origins of the building, considered to be one of the most beautiful aristocratic city palaces in Slovakia, date back to the 16th century, when its construction was started by Zygmunt Rakoczy, the prince of Transylvania. After the reconstruction in the 17th century, the facade of the building gained three characteristic bay windows and a prominent attic. Important events related to the Hungarians (led by the Rakoczy) fight against the Habsburgs took place many times in the palace.

The Regional Museum gained its seat in the palace in 1945. Thanks to this, a number of restoration works were carried out and the interior and exterior architecture was brought to the state after the last baroque reconstruction.

Today, in addition to temporary exhibitions, the museum offers the following permanent exhibitions:

1. History of Prešov from the 9th to the 19th century
2. From generation to generation
3. Shepherd's huts in Šariš
4. Mikołaj Moyzes
5. Historical furniture and interior accessories
6. Historical weapons
7. Historical clocks
8. Salt pump lace
9. History of firefighting in Slovakia
