Regional Museum of PTTK in Gorlice

Initially, the exhibition of memorabilia of the Gorlice battle from the times of World War I now presents as many as 13 exhibitions - from military-historical, through ethnographic, to art collections.

Immediately after the end of World War I, a group of social activists from Gorlice came up with the initiative to organize an exhibition of war memorabilia. Such a temporary exhibition was held twice in the interwar period, and a large collection of exhibits remained.

The idea of creating a museum in Gorlice was revived after the city was liberated from Nazi occupation. The then employees of the magistrate and social activists began to renovate the tenement house at Wąska Street, dating from the years 1780-90, allocating the building to a future museum.

The initiative to create the museum also came from the Main Board of PTTK and its Committee for the Preservation of Monuments, chaired by Dr. Stanisław Herbst. Thanks to the committed work of PTTK activists from the Gorlice Branch, including Konstanty Laskowski, Alfred Wacławski, and Stanisław Gabryel, the facility was renovated and on July 22, 1957 the museum was officially opened and its manager was Alfred Wacławski, who held this function until 1966.

The museum's exhibition currently occupies 13 rooms, one of which is used for temporary exhibitions. The collections include:

- collections related to the history of the city and the exhibition on the Battle of Gorlice during World War I, opened in 1995;

- collections related to the history of crude oil extraction in these areas and Ignacy Łukasiewicz's stay in Gorlice; as part of the exhibition, the original pharmacy stills from the beginning of the 19th century, used for oil distillation, were recreated;

- ethnographic collections related to the culture of the Lemkos and Pogórzans (folk costumes, everyday objects, artistic craftsmanship);

- art collections, which include: painting, graphics and sculpture (works by, among others, Apolinary Kotowicz, Seweryn Bieszczad, Aleksander Augustynowicz, Alfred Schouppé, Tadeusz Rybkowski, Aleksander Dętkoś, Włodzimierz Kunz and Konstanty Laszczka);

- a biographical exhibition devoted to Bohdan Ihor Antonycz - a Ukrainian poet and prose writer.

Visitors are guided individually or in organized groups. Museum lessons are also held in the exhibition halls.
