Saris Brewery

Pivovar Saris is one of the largest breweries in Slovakia located in the village of Wielki Šariš near Prešov. Years ago he became famous for the production of Smadny Mnich beer.

The foundation stone for the construction of the Šariš Brewery was laid in September 1964. The first batch of beer was brewed on May 26, 1967. After the modernization carried out in the early 1980s, the annual production was raised to one million hectoliters in 1983. In August 1984, the beer production exceeded 10 million hl. In 1991, production was increased once again, this time to 1.2 million hectoliters per year.

As a result of the privatization of the previously state-owned brewery, Šariš changed its owner - in 1997 it was taken over by the world tycoon SABMiller. In March 2000, the licensed production of Czech brands Gambrinus and Velkopopovicky Kozel began, and a year later the brewery exceeded the production limit of over 20 million hectoliters. In 2005, the South African concern also bought the Topvar Brewery, which in 2007 was merged with Šariš into a new company of the SABMiller group under the name of Browary Topvar. In 2008, a new production line was launched in the brewery in Szariy. After the Topvar brewery was closed in March 2010, the entire Slovak production was taken over by the Veliky Šariš brewery.

There is a shop at the brewery, where you can buy souvenirs and gadgets from the brewery as well as limited editions of beers in special packaging.
