Humenský manor house

The most valuable monument in Humenne is the Renaissance Manor House in Humenne, situated in the heart of the city.

Mansion was once the seat ± originating from Naples noble family Drugeths. The residence in Humenne was built in the 15th century on the site of a former medieval fortified castle. From its inception, the property was owned by the Drugeths. When the last descendant of the family died in 1684, the manor was taken over by various magnates. Over the years, the manor was successively under the rule of the Rakoczych, Csaki, Wandernat and Andrassy. At the end of the 19th century, the manor house was rebuilt to resemble French baroque palaces. During World War II, as a result of hostilities, the manor house was significantly damaged. In 1964, a thorough reconstruction of the manor began, which lasted for many years. Currently, the residence is open to visitors, and within its walls there is a Museum of Local History. In the adjacent park, there are rare specimens of trees and shrubs, as well as an ethnographic open-air museum, to which characteristic wooden buildings were transferred from the areas flooded by the waters of the Starina reservoir .

The entrances to the park are guarded by the Lion and the Lioness - cast in the nearby Zemplinskie Hamry. Two similar statues guard the bridge leading to the Manor. They are supposed to refer to the lions in the coat of arms, but also to the balance between the role of the master and mistress of the house.
