Monument to Empress Elizabeth - Alžbeta (Sissi)

In July 1895, Elżbieta Bawarska, the wife of Emperor Franz Józef, stayed in the spa for three weeks. She was very pleased with the stay and with the treatment itself. Her stay in the already famous spa is commemorated in 1903 (5 years after Elizabeth's death) in the bronze statue of the Empress, located in front of the "Alžbeta" spa house.

The Bardejovske Kupele prides itself on the fact that the Empress of Autria herself and the Queen of Hungary, Sissi, were hosted here. At the end of the promenade, in front of the Alżbieta hotel, there is a monument to this empress, not very liked by the Austrian court, but much loved by Hungarians. The monument shows her in a sitting position and shows her cheerfully. Apparently, the cause of Sissi's extremely slim figure was an eating disorder, possibly anorexia.

Young Elizabeth goes to the Viennese court to become the wife of Franz Józef. There she meets the rigid realities of life in the imperial court, full of politics and conventions. Interestingly, she becomes the Emperor's wife almost by accident, because her older sister was to become her, but Franz Josef, having met Sissi, changed his mind, but was it happiness for her?
