Museum of the Zdziarski House.

You can learn about the way of life of highlanders living at the foot of the Belianske Tatras. It presents original architecture, interiors and costumes. Everything is completed with a lecture.

The Zdiar House Museum was established in 1971 on the initiative of the local community of the inhabitants of the town of Ždiar. It is housed in an original wooden building. The exhibition introduces the life of the local highlanders , presents the authentic interior design and the richness of traditional folk costumes. One of the phenomena that you can get acquainted with here are the rituals of the Zdiar wedding . Those interested can even try on a local folk costume. Years later, the commemorative photos will remind you of the originality of the exhibition.

The museum is a living record of the history of the highlander village of Żdiar. Sometimes the pages of history write down what is convenient for someone, other times mistakes result from inaccuracies. This is what happened to the village of Ždiar . Until recently, 1282 was considered the year of the first written mention. The facts, however, say otherwise. In fact, the first mention of ink on parchment dates back to 1590. The original document is in the archives of the Spiš Chapter.

The harsh climate and dense forests were not conducive to settlement in this part of Zamagurie. The first permanent inhabitants of the village were Wallachians, lumberjacks, charcoal makers and shepherds . In a document from 1628, Ždiar is already called a village, and is now a popular winter sports center and a year-round tourist resort .
The local architecture uses wood relatively often, which adds color to the village. Folk traditions are cultivated to this day. Every Sunday, residents meet in the church dressed in festive highlander costumes.
