Sensory gardens in Muszyna

The sensory garden is designed in such a way as to intensify and deliberately influence the extra-visual senses to a greater extent than usual. In addition to its walking and recreational function, it also has therapeutic and educational functions for disabled people and children. The garden is divided into the following zones: health, smell, sight, auditory, tactile and taste, as well as the Aphrodite zone and the zone of fairy tales and legends about Muszyna.

The park complex "Zapopradzie" is picturesquely situated on a small hill. The park is a complex of walking paths, bicycle paths and outdoor exercise equipment. In addition, a stream with cascades, artificial ponds, gazebos, benches, stylish lanterns, as well as a barbecue shed for tourists and patients. From the park, and especially from a special 11.5-meter viewing platform, there is a view of the river and the panorama of the town with Beskid Sądecki in the background.

The Garden of Senses in Muszyna is divided into several zones. In front of the entrance to each of the gardens, there is an information board presenting the description of the garden and the plants that are in it (information is written in Braille and in Polish, Slovak and English).

The health garden begins at Mściwujskiego Street with the so-called rose alley. There are a variety of exercise equipment that requires little effort. They can be used by the elderly and the disabled. While exercising, you can admire the panorama and floral compositions created, among others, by from roses, tawuł, thuja, maples, spruces and hornbeams.

The next stage of the journey is the fragrance garden. In this area, the plants are selected in such a way that the intensity of the smells is more intense. For blind people, this part of the garden will be a condensed herbarium - for learning and teaching purposes, they will be able to touch each plant, rub leaves or petals in their fingers to obtain the fragrance of essential oils. Among hyacinths, lilies, spruces, firs, we can find here "kitchen spices" - fragrant thyme, mint, sage, garlic. Recognizing and getting to know smells will be a great educational fun for everyone. It is enough to close your eyes and guess what smell each plant gives off.

Walking further along the alleys, we reach a part called the garden of sound. It is worth stopping in it and listening to the gentle rustle of trees, the murmur of water flowing in the stream, the chirping of birds, the crunch of gravel under your feet. All materials have been selected in such a way as to intensify the sounds created around us.

Magic Garden - this is the newest part of Muszyna gardens, it can be entered from the Antoni pump room. The magical garden, thanks to numerous sandstone figures, is deceptively similar to Greek or Roman gardens. Walking along the charming garden alleys, you can meet, among others, the statue of: Adonis, Hebe, Talia, Antiope and Kanefor. While in the gardens, it is also worth visiting two magical places. The first is a goldfish pond where you can express your dream, and the second is a place where exotic and colorful birds are gathered. The long-lived Manchurian crane, Indian peacock, mandarin duck and many other interesting species of birds were brought to Muszyna from all over the world. The garden consists of open spaces, thanks to which tourists can sunbathe during the day.

Especially for the disabled - the gardens of the senses are a park adapted not only to relaxing in the bosom of nature, but above all for therapeutic, socializing and educational purposes for the blind as well as people with psychophysical disorders or mental retardation. They are designed in such a way as to purposefully and intensively affect the extra-visual senses. In addition to the cognitive function, they play a similar role as gardens intended for hortiotherapy (garden therapy) - through educational games they help build interpersonal bonds. The gardens are fully adapted to the needs of disabled people and parents who transport their children in prams. Park paths are adapted to this. A special platform enables access for disabled people in wheelchairs.
