The market square in Biecz - a historic market square with a centrally located historic town hall. This place is of exceptional historical, cultural and social importance.

The entire spatial and urban layout of the city comes from the Middle Ages. It has the shape of an elongated ellipse, resulting from the natural topography. In the center of the city, in accordance with the rules of Magdeburg Law, where Biecz was located, a regular rectangular market was marked out, from which four streets run perpendicularly.

In the very center of the square there is a gothic town hall with a lofty 53-meter high town hall tower decorated in sgraffito technique. In the ground floor of the town hall on the south side there is a Tourist Information, and on the eastern side - you can visit a relic of a former city turma (prison), where you sometimes manage to meet a gloomy executioner (!!!). Keys from the turma at the Tourist Information. In the market square, in its north-eastern corner, there is also a chapel of St. Florian, whose task is to protect the city from fires.

There are many tenement houses around the square. These houses used to have arcades, which, however, have not survived to this day. As a rule, they are two-story, with shops on the ground floor and private apartments on the first floor. Most of the tenement houses have an early medieval pedigree and a legible old structure with a gate from the side of the market square and a long hall where the carts of merchants visiting the city could stop.

In tenement house no. 20 in the south of the market square, which once housed a synagogue, today it houses a library. The legendary Dom Zbója Becza is located in tenement house no. 2 in the south-western part of the market square - today a restaurant and cafe called "U Becza".

On the restored market square one can find the outlines of the old walls of buildings, once adjacent to the town hall, arranged in bricks. The size of this square, which constituted 1/8 of the area of the entire medieval city, is impressive.
