village Čičava

A small village in the commune of Hlinne, once belonging to the estate of Cicva Castle.

The oldest written document related to Czyczawa is the document of King Stefan (born 1239), brother of St. Margaret, son of King Bel IV. and the future Hungarian king Stefan V lists the property he gave to a nobleman, administrator of royal branches, and later also manager of royal cooks and the Hungarian palatine, master Rajnold (the founder of the Rozhanovce family, i.e. the Rozgoň family).
In documents 13-14. age u occurs only under the name of Chichva.

Czyczawa was a manor village. There is a record from 1363 according to which there were three villages around the castle called Czyczawa: Veľká, Vyšná and Stredná. Wielka Czyczawa is probably identical to the present-day village of Czyczawa, located approx. 10 km on foot from the ruins of the Cicva Castle, which was the arena of many important historical events.

The present-day village of Cicava has been a partner of Nowy Żmigród in the Jasło poviat since June 10, 2007. The pride of the village is the activity of the civic association Kňahinka, which cultivates the local tradition and folklore.

In the middle of the village there is a small Greek Catholic parish church - the church of St. Kosma and Damian and a cemetery nearby. We do not know exactly when the Čičava parish was founded, we only know that the church is very old. It is quite possible that during the Protestant struggle with Catholics, Calvinists may have been here. In 1749, 111 Greek Catholics, 9 Roman Catholics and 35 children lived in Czyczawa. In 1806, 190 Greek Catholics, 8 "Hebrews" lived in Czyczawa, and there were no Roman Catholics.

The company Martin a Janočko operates in the village , producing delicious homemade dumplings http://www.domacepirohy.sk/.
