Vranov nad Toplou Minor Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Late Gothic Roman Catholic Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1580. Elevated as Minor Basilica in 2008, it is one of the most important Roman Catholic pilgrimage churches in Slovakia

On September 6, 2008, the Pauline church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary the dignity of the Minor Basilica. On this occasion, the words of the General of the Order, Father Izydor Matuszewski, were uttered: “ Here, in Vrana nad Toplou, there is a famous place of worship to God. The old pilgrim trail has led to Vrana for many centuries. It is in this church that the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary with crowns is held with great love. It is at this time that 300 years have passed since the image of the Virgin Mary was brought to this church when bloody tears appeared on it. Mary, the Mother of God is crying ...! This is a sign of a great cry for love and peace! "

The Late Gothic Roman Catholic Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1580. Its baroque interior is particularly valuable, with ceiling paintings by the outstanding Czech painter Jan Łukasz Kracker , with sculptural and woodcarving works from the workshop of Józef Hartman, and with a set of liturgical objects by the Levok goldsmith Jan Syilassa . The former Pauline monastery , which was added to the church, is decorated with a baroque portal and precious frescoes in the interior.
