Zagroda Maziarska

Zagroda Maziarska, located in the village of Łosie, is an ethnographic open-air museum presenting the history of lining, that is, the trade in grease and grease, which the inhabitants of this Lemko village had to do in the past.

Łosie near Gorlice is a Lemko village, the inhabitants of which traditionally dealt with the itinerant trade in grease and grease. Once upon a time it was the so-called The wheel is mainly used to lubricate the axles of wooden carts. It was obtained in the process of dry distillation of pine waste.

From the mid-nineteenth century, along with the development of the oil industry in Podkarpacie, elk began to switch to the production and trade of technical lubricants and petroleum oils. Until World War II, this occupation was the basic source of income for the majority of men from this village.

For decades, each spring, specially adapted carts filled with goo, grease and oils left Łoś. They reached the depths of Poland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary and the distant Transylvania. In 1934, 335 Mazovian cars set out on the road. After World War II, trade collapsed as a result of the displacements under Operation "Vistula". In the post-war years, a dozen or so wood producers from Łoś traded. The last maziarz went on tour in the 1970s. Intrathenic profession and related migrations caused significant cultural changes in all areas of life: incl. architecture, dress, lifestyle.

Zagroda Maziarska is a traditional Lemko farm. It borders on buildings from the beginning of the 20th century and an active Greek Catholic church from 1810. It is separated from the temple by a historic church wall. The museum complex is an example of the Lemko architecture of the Elk at the end of the 19th century. There is a hut (cottage) from 1899 and farm buildings: a barn and a granary. The only translocated object in Zagroda is the Chyża from Bartne from 1928. The whole village, picturesquely situated on the Łosianka stream, is worth visiting.
